For thirty years Chicago’s Signature Room at the 95th (875 N. Michigan Ave.), high atop the John Hancock Tower, has been my go-to restaurant for brunch in the Windy City. It is constantly reinventing itself and it never disappoints this foodie traveler.
Brunch is now offered on both Saturdays and Sunday from 10a to 2:30p. While the wonderful buffet is still the main fare, you can also select an entree from a seasonal menu. After grazing at the buffet on creamy blue cheese and melon, shrimp and beet salad, I chose Avocado Toast with Poached Eggs for my entree. It was served on a bed of arugula salad with lemon vinaigrette dressing atop sourdough bread. Believe it or not, I still had room for dessert with mini creme brulle, berries, cookies and more, oh my!
My mimosa was the perfect way to brighten a gloomy Sunday in Chicago. The staff is always accommodating and solo diners are never made to feel like an outsider, nor are they seated in some out-of-the-way corner. I had requested a window table with my reservation and voila, the princess dined with a cloudy view of Lake Michigan. My incredible waiter Ramon kept the fresh Lavazza coffee coming and I was a happy foodie.
When you travel, there’s nothing you can do about the weather, so just roll with it. In fact, roll your way to the top at the Signature Room at the 95th. Dine on an ever-changing buffet amid the beauty of its art deco decor.
Dining at the Signature Room whether for weekend brunch or a special occasion transports you above the clouds into old world elegance. I must admit, as a longtime guest on the 95th floor, I do miss the days when this brunch was special and people dressed up for it. Today’s mobs of jean-clad tourists, toting suitcases, make me want to travel back in time to those special dates with my Mom…when we dressed for a special Sunday brunch at Chicago’s Signature Room!
