Hidden in the hills of Sorrento is a treasure trove of antiques, lingerie, flip flops and euro bags full of fresh produce off the beaten path. It’s the weekly market hidden above the tourist trodden main street, Corso Italia.
Locals with their wheelie shopping carts flock to the outdoor market in the parking lot like lemmings to the sea. They know how to find a bargain and some of the best pecorino romano cheese, fresh from the farm.
Salami and prosciutto hang overhead while sweaters, linens and bikinis in every size line the aisles. Shoes are mismatched and you must search through the boxes but often you can walk away with a pair of suede loafers for €20 while they are triple that down on the Corso.
The market is held every Tuesday morning. It’s a great place to taste the local flavor of life and grab some unique souvenirs in the process. Head up the hill early. It’s directly behind the Pollio Deco supermarket on Via degli Aranci. The market is usually over by siesta time at 12:30pm.
DIRECTIONS: If you’re on Corso Italia, hang a right up the hill at the Hotel Tourist on the corner. Continue walking past the Pollio Deco supermarket on Via San Renato
