Cruisin’ from the Amalfi Coast to Capri

Life along the Amalfi Coast is all about the water and the best way to see it, from Positano to Capri, is on a boat.  Sure, you can catch a hydrofoil with hoards of noisy tourists or hop aboard an old-school day cruise and grab a leisurely lounge chair on deck.  I much prefer the intimacy and fun of a small group motor boat ride and one of my favorites is the service run by LaSibilla out of Marina di Praia in Praiano.

I happened upon this Amalfi boat charter, off the beaten path, as I headed down a steep cliff off the Amalfi Drive.  This solo traveler finds the best surprises are always where others fear to tread…or in this case, cruise!

I caught the full day Capri tour.  It leaves from Marina di Praia and glides across the Bay of Naples to Capri, where you sail under the large rock formations known as the Faraglioni.  The boat’s small size allows you to actually go thru the rock arches rather than sail past them as the large boats do.   You enjoy a generous four-hour stop on the island before returning to the dock in Praiano.  The best part is that since the group is small, usually 6-8 passengers, the captain is able to stop here and there, allowing for a quick swim far from the maddening crowd.  Towels and drinks are provided.  It’s truly an unforgettable day along the Amalfi Coast!

TOURIST TIP:  Depending on the season, the boat returns just prior to sunset.  I would grab an aperitivo and watch the magic of the day set over the horizon before enjoying a wonderful dinner at Trattoria Da Armandino’s on the beach.
