For a true rock chic of a certain age, can there be anything cooler than saying you are going to have dinner on Abbey Road? OK, maybe there is but for a Beatles fan, flying solo in London, dining on Abbey Road has its allure.
The Maida Vale-St. Johns Wood area has been my haunt for more years than I can remember and Pizza Express has been my go-to pizzeria in London. So, combine the two and you have a fantastic dining experience.
I usually opt for Pizza Veneziana because a portion of the proceeds from its sale is donated by the restaurant chain to restoring the sinking city of Venice. This night, I decided to go wild and step out of my comfort zone by ordering the American Hot Leggera…..pepperoni pizza with a hole in the middle, filled with rocket and tomato salad. I figured by getting a pizza with the dough cut out that I could leave room for dessert.
I was not disappointed. The crust was crispy perfection and the topping went well with my chosen red wine. For good measure I opted for dessert and my old college favorite, Banoffee Pie, which when coupled with vanilla bean ice cream, just pushed me into foodie heaven.
Many would snub their nose at the thought of a chain pizzeria but Pizza Express, especially on Abbey Road, delivers!

Pizza Express was the first chain pizza restaurant in England that I tried quite a few years ago now, and I wasn’t disappointed then. Maybe it is time to give them another go.
