In the six times I have been to Ischia in the past 18 months, I have walked past Ristorante ‘O Padrone D’O Mare (Via Circumvesuviana, 18, Lacco Ameno) many, many times. This sunny Sunday, the seaview and the man out front called to me, literally.
I was starving after having spent the day in the sun. So, like a sailor to the call of the Sirens, I entered the terrazzo. Brilliant view and even better food. I ordered spaghetti con vongole which was a fresh delight, loaded with plenty of bite-sized clams. This is what this dish should taste like and not that slop they usually serve at American pizzerias. I saw one American couple ask whether the clam sauce was red or white and I wanted to laugh out loud.
I am sorry I didn’t memorialize the meal with a photo but by the time I realized it, that meal was long gone……I thoroughly enjoyed it and at only €15 (approx. $19.50) for water and entree with tip, it was a delicious bargain.
