There has been a trend over the last few years in Sorrento to cater to the tourist’s desire for a gluten free menu (si, si, in Italy), as well as organic fare. Mondo Bio (Via dei Aranci 108/110) tries to meet that need by offering an organic, no hormone menu.
I pass this little market and cafe each day en route to the gym or Piazza, since Sorrento is not that large. It intrigued me but I must say that I was somewhat disappointed. For lunch I ordered a Caprese salad whose tomatoes were quite acidic and whose Buffalo mozzarella was tasteless. I tried doctoring the plate with salt and olive oil but even the oil was tasteless. This is Italy. If you can’t get good olive oil and mozzarella here then you are in deep trouble.
I cannot resist a chocolate lava cake so I raised my hopes for dessert. The Cuore Bio al Cioccolato was rich and tasty but should’ve been accompanied by vanilla ice cream or whipped cream to cut the rich flavor.
The menu is reasonably priced in this usually overpriced city, with no entree costing more than €9, and the wine list was also reasonably priced with the average bottle around €10.
They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. So, if you are looking for an affordable, organic Sorrento eatery, off the beaten path, you might want to first try Mondo Bio for breakfast, which will only cost you €3 for a coffee and cornetto.

This looks so good. I have not been to the Amalfi Coast, and would love to get there on my next trip to Italy.
