Spa Spotlight – Thermae Bath Spa

There was I time that I would meditate and be able to have those out of body experiences people discuss.  Then life happens, stress happens and your ability to get to that alpha state diminishes.  So, I escape to my favorite luxury spa from time to time.

Bath Spa WatsuWell, as they say, I’m back and I have Cerah at the Thermae Bath Spa in Bath, England to thank for it.  She was the therapist who guided me through my first Watsu treatment in the ancient, mineral rich waters which have flowed under and through Bath for thousands of years.

Watsu is an aquatic form of shiatsu massage but that does not explain its full benefit.  It is all about trust, relaxation and letting go.  The therapist cradles your into a fetal state, gently guiding you into places most people rarely visit.  It’s an energy flow with negativity flowing out and white light and positivity flowing through you.  At the point you reach maximum relaxation, she stretches away your aches and pains with absolutely no effort.

It is difficult to explain the sensations you experience during Watsu.  At some point I became an amoeba, pure energy suspended in water, totally in touch with myself and the force field around me.  It was spiritual and illuminating.  I am now addicted to Watsu.

Bath Thermae PoolAs to the spa’s facilities, this is a first class destination to pamper yourself.  This spa was just in the planning phase when I first visited Bath some 15 years ago.  It is now a publicly-financed, privately-run spa.

You can spend en entire day or a weekend getaway from London here.  Start in the rooftop pool with amazing views of the ancient resort.  Naturally, it is heated and you can swim all year round.  There is an indoor pool with thermal waters known as the Minerva Bath.  It has built-in jacuzzis and waterfalls to massage away your cares.  However, my favorite room has to be Bath Spa steam roomthe aromatherapy, chromatherapy steam room.  It’s a huge room with four steam pods, each scented and colored to achieve a different feeling.  In the middle of the room there is a giant rain head which flows down in cycles so you can cool off as you travel among the pods.  My personal favorites were the red and blue steam pods.

Robes, towels, slippers and lockers are provided, along with shampoo and hair dryers in unisex facilities.  I thought it a bit odd at first but never saw a man until checkout.  It’s a very comfortable and easy environment to spend the day and packages are available with or without the indulgent spa treatments.

There’s an on-site restaurant and it takes about 90 minutes by train from central London. It’s well worth it at any cost.  True luxury travel does not get any better.
