I travel to Sorrento a lot lately. It can be quite pricey, even in the off-season; so I decided to scout around before my most recent trip. I had checked out several other small B & Bs and apartments to let but most were booked 2-3 months ahead. One of the owners recommended the newly established Villa Angiolina and it turned out to be a truly pleasant surprise. The family who owns the B & B could not have been more helpful and the rooms were clean, bright and very spacious. You need to know your way around Sorrento to find it because this little gem is hidden off the Via Aranci but it is close to everything – a 10 minute walk in any direction will place you in the main square of the Piazza Tasso; shopping along Via Aranci; or at the train/bus station to head down the Amalfi Coast or over to Pompei and Ercolano.
Parking is available at an extra charge if you do have a car, although a car in Sorrento is not really necessary. There are taxis and private car hires available but this is a small enough city that it is easy to navigate even for solo travelers visiting the Amalfi Coast for the first time.
Wanderlust Women looking for a relaxing massage will find several facilities nearby. Spa La Serra at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is pricey but well worth it; however the Villa is affiliated with a nearby spa and the information is available in each room. Believe it or not, you will even find a bowling alley within walking distance on Via S. Antonio. There are only 3 lanes but it works! And if you want to dance, take a ride over to the Jamaica Inn. There are free salsa lessons on Friday nights and the pizza is wonderful.
Solo travelers should not hesitate to travel to Sorrento. It’s a warm, welcoming city with wonderful people and the Villa Angiolina…….not to mention the limoncello!
