Wanderlust woman travels to discover New York City through new eyes!

First of all, I want to wish all wanderlust travelers the happiest and healthiest of New Years. I am so glad that I started this blog in 2009 and look forward to watching it grow, with your help, in the year ahead.   Buon Anno Nuovo a tutti.

Sometimes, scratch that – a lot of times – the best things in life are right in front of us if we only open our eyes.   solo travel New York CityThis holiday season had someone very near and dear to my heart visit me from Italy. That in itself was present enough but the joy of discovering New York City Attractions through his eyes was all the more special.

I am a native New Yorker, born and raised here and a NYC broadcast journalist, you can’t get more jaded and seasoned than that. To me Rockefeller Center is where they plant that giant tree each year; to me the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island is where my grandparents began a new life; to me the Empire State Building is where tourists go to look at tall buildings. Yet, this season I found a new appreciation for all of the things I take for granted on a daily basis living in this wonderful city.

  • Broadway is electrifying no matter the time of day. (By the way – if you have yet to see “Burn the Floor” then run to buy tickets!)
  • The Empire State Building is the best place for a midnight kiss (and yes, it’s open till 1am – it is NYC, afterall!)
  • New York pizza is great when made by Greeks (we just happened upon Prince Pizza on Lex and it was AWESOME!)
  • NYC pedicabs are actually quite fun even if hokey!
  • NYC shopping is a true marathon if you know where the deals are hiding…………and H & M after Christmas can’t be beat!

I played tour guide and loved every second of it but what I loved more was seeing my city through new eyes and finding there truly is no place like home!
